Can the Meris MercuryX Compete With UA Golden??

Here’s one that’s been asked about a LOT!! I don’t think there was any reason it took so long to do this one besides just not having a Universal Audio Golden Reverberator to go up against my Meris MercuryX Stereo Modular Reverb. I wasn’t afraid of what the outcome might be…I simply didn’t have a Golden, didn’t want to necessarily buy one, and never trades into one. Thankfully good friends being what they are, our buddy Scott (who designed the logo and stickers YES STICKERS!) decided he could part with his for a minute, and a minute is all I needed!

As in most of the emulation presets I make, I start with a setting on the challenger, which in this case is the UA Golden, and then try and make it on the reigning champ (MercuryX). I DON’T try and make the challenger sound like the champion as that’s not the point.

Anyway, we did this for all 4 settings on the Golden and I’m pleased with the results. I must say though that the Spring mode on the Golden might be the best I’ve ever come up against, and while I feel good about the one made on the MercuryX, I was thoroughly impressed with what the Golden had to offer! Truthfully the Golden is a great reverb pedal and all 4 algorithms are quite impressive!
