It was a sad day when Chase Bliss announced they were discontinuing the Automatone Preamp Mkii, a collaboration with Benson Amps . You basically get the front end of a Benson Chimera with the flexibility of a Chase Bliss. The magic here is in the mids, and your ability to focus them as well as place them pre or post, or off. Choose between silicone or germanium diodes as well as a open or gated fuzz and well, let’s just say there’s not much this can’t do! Seriously!
In this video we’re thowing 8 different drive circuits at it, each with it’s own variances, to see how close we can get the Preamp Mkii to sound! What do you think? Which one’s your favorite?
