Exploring the Depths of the Beetronics Wannabee Dual Overdrive

August 2, 2024 | Alan

I stumbled across the Beetronics Wannabee Beelateral Buzz pedal as I was looking into one of their other pedals (The SeaBee…I’m still after that one!) I’ve tried many dual drive pedals over the years, but none that allow you to run both sides in PARALLEL as opposed to series. Sure, the Wannabee can do the normal series thing, but that’s not what caught my attention. The ability to run both sides in parallel is astounding. This means each side can run independently without having one side affect the other. To me, the parallel setting brings a fullness that’s unparalleled (no pun intended?)

The two circuits utilized on the Wannabee are their takes on two classic overdrive circuits. The Bluesbreaker on the left, with a 3-way toggle on the midrange, and the Klon on the right, with a 3-way toggle to adjust clean blend on that circuit. There’s a lot of variation here in this box with just a gain, volume, and tone knob for each circuit, the aforementioned clean and mid switches, and the series/parallel switch. That’s it. Nothing more.

Come with us as we explore the sounds you can coax out of this little Wannabee!
