FIRST SOUNDS // Like Jones Pedals Gritcake V2

May 5, 2025 | Alan

Our good friend Kris over at Like Jones Pedals just released the v2 of his Gritcake (his take on the Crowther Hotcake), and this one’s got a special treat: a clean blend knob he’s generously dubbed “the TPC mod.” We’re so honored we’re blushing!

The Gritcake v2 is for fans of the Hotcake that want to balance the saturation with untainted dry signal. To my ears it really rounds out the tone and gives an airiness to the harmonics found in the Gritcake. Plus, you get the Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty staring right into your soul with its two beady and burning eyes!

I said this on the podcast, but I’ll say it here again: I think this might be my favorite OD I’ve ever played! Let me tell you why. I’m playing my Fender American Vintage II ’77 Telecaster Custom with a Wide Range CuNiFe humbucker in the neck and Pure Vintage ’77 single coil in the bridge. I’m finding the Gritcake v2 really responds to the dynamics of my playing, from finger picking to light strumming to full on railing into it, the Gritcake v2 stays on track with what I’m doing.

On top of that, whenever I switch pickups via the selector, the Gritcake v2 seems to really highlight the gnarliness of the bridge pup and the depth of the neck. This baby is so responsive I may not even need a second gain stage…or even a boost!

Check out Alan’s first sounds video of the Gritcake v2, and get ready for Paul’s version to come as well! In the meantime, head on over to Instagram and get a hold of your very own Gritcake v2! https://www.instagram.com/likejonespedals/
